20 Ways to Show Appreciation to Others

It’s so easy to let the hustle and bustle of the day cause us to take for granted the jewels we have in our lives.  Some of my best life experiences have come from simply enjoying the company of good family and friends.  Living a deep and fulfilled life begins with having quality relationships, but relationships die without reciprocity.  Appreciating and loving on others around you produces such great energy that it spills into your space and promotes your own positive well-being.  And face it, it just feels good to do nice things for people.

I want this to be a year of appreciation for the people, places, and circumstances in my life, no matter how challenging or difficult they may be. Last week’s Restored challenge was to write to loved ones explaining how and why I appreciated them.  People are really flattered when you care enough to take notice of them.  It doesn’t take much to make someone’s day; sometimes a simple hello will do. This year I’m going to make a conscious effort to bless others around me.  To start, I compiled 20 ways to show appreciation to others:

  1. Pay for a meal for the person in line behind you.
  2. Send a card with a hand-written note to someone dear to you.
  3. Make a handcrafted gift and give it to someone.
  4. Stop a stranger and ask him/her how their day is going.
  5. Call a friend simply to say “thank you” for being a good friend.
  6. Send a bouquet of flowers anonymously to someone, just because.
  7. Give a bottle of water to someone who works outside all day (parking attendant, crossing guard, traffic cop, etc).
  8. Pack a lunch and then give it away.
  9. Offer to buy a meal for your server at a restaurant.
  10. Share your umbrella with a stranger.
  11. Leave notes of encouragement and hide for friends or family to discover.
  12. Tape money to a vending machine for the next person to use.
  13. Spend an hour in conversation with someone you care for.  No media or other distractions, just the two of you.
  14. Genuinely compliment someone in front of others.
  15. Give a small gift to your mail carrier, doorman, or anyone similar.
  16. Cook a meal or provide dinner for a friend or associate who is having a difficult time.
  17. Leave positive post-it notes in random places (public bathrooms, library, grocery store, etc.).
  18. Randomly text a person you don’t speak to on a regular basis to check up on them.
  19. Help carry groceries for a person who appears to be struggling.
  20. Buy a dozen flowers and hand out single flowers to random people on the street.
Have you tried any of these ideas to show appreciation to others?

I’m Tiffany, and the drastic changes to my skin in my late 20s, led me to start making my own skin products. I've learned that managing my eating habits, stress, and my skin regimen is helping to get my skin back on track. Now I blog about my skin struggles and what I’ve learned along the way. Check out my awesome body butters here.

What neat ideas! Thank you for sharing! On my list of goals this year is a desire to teach my son about giving back. I love the idea of sharing these with him.
