October 1st will be here before you know it. That is the official day that I will begin selling my products. I’ve been so busy lining up everything I need to launch that I sometimes forget to create. I love mixing and experimenting with my oils but I’ve been so busy writing and preparing that i haven’t had time to make much. Now that the 30-day blogging challenge is over in 1 day, I will declare my next 30 days as my “maker month”. I am going to bust my tail to create and share. I’m doing a “soft launch” where I’m sending out a few products for people to try out and give feedback. Sounds exciting, right?! In anticipation of my “maker month”, I’m giving a run-down of the 4 main items that will be available in October:
Body Butters. My very first creation was a body butter. I was so proud of myself when everything came together! Body butters are extremely moisturizing and are whipped creams made from a combination of butters and oils. They’re called butters because they melt like butter in contact with your skin. I love working with shea, mango, and cocoa butters. They all have different textures but are great for dry skin. My body butters also contain liquid oils that add extra emolliency which include soybean oil, rice bran oil, shea oil, and avocado oils. My butters are anhydrous, meaning they do not contain water, eliminating the need for any preservatives. It’s best to keep these butters away from extreme heat and away from direct sunlight. To really maximize its effectiveness, apply the butter when your skin is still damp.
Lip Balms. Since our lips don’t have oil glands, it’s important that we’re proactive to keep them moisturized. Our lips are constantly beat up by the elements, our lack of hydration, and our fondness for licking our lips. The best remedy for this is to pick ingredients that lock in moisture. Shea and cocoa butters are excellent for locking in moisture, and candelila wax helps retains moisture. My lip balms have a simple ingredient list, but actually work at fighting against dry and chapped lips.
Lotion Bars. Lotion bars are an alternative to body butters when you don’t feel like dipping your hands into a jar of cream. They come in what looks like a super-sized lip balm twist-up container. Lotion bars come in solid form, but when you apply them to your skin, they glide easily and spread just like body butter would. The bars are also great spot treatments if you want to use for certain dry spots or areas that are more prone to dry skin frequently (like your feet, knees, and elbows).
Sugar Scrubs. I love exfoliation. I feel like I talk about it way too much. But it really is an important element of any skin care routine. It provides a great foundation for other body products in your regimen. Sugar scrubs are awesome because they provide a luxurious feeling as you’re showering. Your skin comes out smooth and much softer than if you simply used soap and water. I use sugar because it’s much gentler than salt. I also use shea and rice bran oils which are super emollient.I can’t wait to share with you the work I’ve been doing behind the scenes in perfecting my products. In the coming months, I will be sharing updates and photos of the items that will be for sale. Stay tuned and SIGN UP HERE for updates and giveaways.
