Frozen Smoothies for Healthy Skin

Last week I posted about 7 fruits that are best for vibrant skin.  Surprisingly given all my food sensitivities, there aren’t many fruits that I can’t eat, I just don’t really like eating fruit.  I’m more of a gravy and potatoes kind of girl. That forces me to figure out creative ways to increase my fruit intake without me really noticing it.

Recently I started making smoothies so I want to share a few recipes using all of the skin-loving fruits that I mentioned in my post.  I love the simplicity of these recipes because all it requires is fruit and your imagination.  You know how when you were a kid and your parents disguised your real medicine in something sweet?  This is exactly how I treat my smoothies.  I add extra stuff (like apple cider vinegar or flaxseed) to the mix and you can barely taste it.  It has proven to be such a refreshing snack at the end of the night and it doesn’t require much.  I also don’t like adding juice to my smoothies because.....why?  The fruit brings enough sweetness to the recipe.  Try my recipes and see how you like them!

Note:  My recipes are dairy and milk free.  Since I can’t do cow’s milk, almond milk, cashew milk, want to stay away from soy milk, and have a weird reaction to oat milk, I just skip it all together.  Most recipes on the Internet include some kind of dairy product to thicken the smoothie but I find that plain ole fruit and ice do it for me.  The fruit can be fresh or frozen.  For all recipes, just throw together in a blender and blend on high until smooth.

My basic recipe makes about 16 ounces. Be sure to drink as soon as you make it; otherwise it will thin out.

My Basic Recipe

½ cup blueberries

½ cup blackberries

½ cup  strawberries

½ cup raspberries

1 cup crushed ice

1-2 tsps honey (depends on preference)

1 tsp apple cider vinegar (optional)

Sweet Berry Smoothie

1 cup pineapple, cubed

½ cup cantaloupe, seeded and cubed

½ cup raspberries

1 cup crushed ice

One day when I’m adventurous, I will try the recipe below that has avocado!  I will update when I’ve been brave enough to try it.

Avocado & Strawberry Smoothie

½ 12 oz avocado

4 oz fresh strawberries

1 tbsp honey

1 small frozen or fresh banana

2 tbsp water

1 tsp lemon juice
